We need your help, John
John,
Amid relentless attacks on our system of checks and balances, I want you to know exactly what the Brennan Center is doing. And crucially, how we’re winning.
As the new administration has issued a record number of executive orders, we’ve fought back. We've sued the administration and submitted friend-of-the-court briefs in key cases to prevent executive overreach. We’ve already won an important victory stopping the President’s attempts to rewrite the country’s election rules. And we are blowing the whistle on this historic assault on the Constitution.
We will respond to this array of attacks with force and focus, but winning will take resources. Can you donate now to fund the fight?

Here are some of the fights we’re currently engaged in that your gift will support:
>>> Protecting the freedom to vote: We are leading the effort to defeat the SAVE Act. This proposed federal law essentially requires Americans to produce a birth certificate or passport to register to vote. Our research shows that 21 million eligible citizens lack ready access to these documents. Many more married women who have changed their name might find it impossible to register or reregister. The bill narrowly passed the House, but is now stalled in the Senate where it faces staunch opposition from Democratic senators. When the president issued an executive order trying to accomplish the same policy, we sued and won an injunction to block the worst parts of this power grab.
>>> Blocking executive overreach: For months, the Brennan Center has been on the frontlines in the fight against the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. Long before President Trump invoked it for summary deportations, we sounded the alarm about the shameful history of a law last used to intern Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants during WWII. This fight is far from over, but we have the nation’s leading experts on this subject fighting to halt this and other abuses of executive power.
>>> Defending checks and balances: The Brennan Center is also working to block the administration’s efforts to take power away from Congress and consolidate it in the presidency. Some of these actions — like turning the border into a military zone and imposing worldwide tariffs — abuse national emergency powers. Others — like shutting down independent agencies and firing agency heads — infringe upon congressional authority and violate Supreme Court precedent. We’ll continue to advocate against these types of abuses with your support.
We’re defending the separation of powers that are enshrined in our Constitution to prevent abuse and corruption. Your gift today will fund these fights. Please John, make a donation today:
