A behind-the-scenes look at our legal strategy as we take on
Trump’s environmental rollbacks.

IMPORTANT NRDC LITIGATION UPDATE
We've launched a wave of lawsuits to block unlawful
environmental rollbacks, protect climate progress, and defend
science and public health.
Each case is carefully chosen for maximum impact. And together,
they form one of the most powerful legal challenges to the Trump
administration's agenda.

Dear NRDC Supporter,
Since returning to office, the Trump administration has
launched a full-scale assault on our environment. They're gutting
clean energy investments, silencing government scientists, and
trying to hand over our public lands and waters to polluters.
At NRDC, we knew this moment would come. And thanks to the
support of our members, we were ready.
Right now, our attorneys and environmental experts are in
the fight. We're filing lawsuits, challenging executive
overreach, and using every tool in our arsenal to defend our
environment, our climate, and the communities that need
protection the most. This is your support in action.
Here's a look at some of the major legal battles we're
taking on:
1. VICTORY — Restoring critical climate data
Days after the inauguration, federal agencies began quietly
scrubbing vital climate information from public websites. They
removed tools, maps, and reports that communities, scientists,
and policymakers rely on.
NRDC, along with our partners, took immediate legal action
to ensure this information was restored and protected — and we
won. Just days before we were set to face off in court, the Trump
administration backed down and agreed to restore the scrubbed
climate resources. Learn more. ( [link removed] )
2. VICTORY — Gutting the federal civil service
The Trump administration is purging civil servants and
scientists and dismantling key federal offices, especially at
EPA. They're firing staff responsible for critical functions,
like tracking levels of lead and "forever chemicals" in our
drinking water and monitoring toxic pollution in our communities.
Together with a coalition of unions, cities, and other
nonprofits, NRDC sued to stop these unlawful firings — and the
coalition just won a critical early victory.
A federal court recently issued a preliminary injunction to
block the Trump administration's attempt to hollow out essential
government functions, like mass firings of the civil servants we
rely on to protect public health and the environment, while our
broader case proceeds. Learn more. ( [link removed] )
3. Expanding offshore drilling
The Trump administration wants to open more than 600 million
acres of protected ocean along our coasts to new oil and gas
drilling.
And NRDC is back in court to stop them. The law is clear:
only Congress can reverse these protections. We've won on this
before — and we're ready to win again. Learn more. ( [link removed] )
4. Sabotaging electric vehicles
In a direct attack on clean energy, the Trump administration
abruptly froze $5 billion in funding from the National Electric
Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. This money, appropriated
by Congress with bipartisan support, is critical for expanding
the network of EV chargers across the country.
NRDC has joined a lawsuit to unfreeze these funds that are
essential to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and
cleaning the air we breathe. Learn more. ( [link removed] )
5. Defending the right to speak truth to power
NRDC recently filed an amicus brief in support of our occasional
courtroom adversary: the giant law firm Perkins Coie. The Trump
administration issued an executive order punishing the firm for
representing clients the president dislikes.
This is a direct attack on the First Amendment, which
protects the right to seek justice in the courts and hold the
government accountable. If government retaliation like this
becomes acceptable, no one is safe from it. Learn more. ( [link removed] )
Each of these cases is part of NRDC's mindful legal
strategy. We choose our legal battles carefully, build strong
arguments backed by science and law, and fight for maximum
impact.
And we know how to win. During Trump's first term, we filed
163 lawsuits and won victories in nearly 90% of resolved cases.
Your support makes this work possible and helps us defend
the environment on all fronts. Every motion we file. Every
protection we defend. Every win we secure — it's thanks to you. ( [link removed] )
Thank you for standing with us — and standing up for the
environment — at this critical moment.
Sincerely,
Michael Wall
