Early this morning, I joined our City of San Diego Lifeguards at their Summer Kick-Off. Last year, over 30 million people visited our city's beaches, and we anticipate no slowdown this year. Lifeguards make the beach safe. We are grateful for your service. ☀️⛱️🚑 | I joined my colleagues, Council President Pro Tem Kent Lee, and Councilmembers Henry Foster and Sean Elo-Rivera, to support the San Diego Housing Commission's recommendation to fund a longer ramp-down of the Midway shelter closing. Our shelters should be a path to housing, not a return to the streets, making the Housing Commission's proposal all the more critical and timely. Without a permanent shelter, we must stand ready whenever a temporary shelter is about to close to avert any worsening of our homelessness crisis. | I was honored to swear in the new board of the San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action. As the City’s former Environment Committee Chair for the past three years and a proud partner in advancing climate action, clean energy, and environmental justice, I’m grateful for the board’s continued leadership in driving real change across our region. | Happy “National Learn About Composting Day!” 🌱 Join the movement to reduce waste, support healthy ecosystems, and protect San Diego’s beautiful and diverse environment. Composting transforms everyday scraps into nutrient-rich soil, benefiting our parks, gardens, and community. Ready to get started? The City has easy-to-follow resources to help you begin. | This week, #TeamLaCava had the privilege of touring the San Diego Zoo and learning firsthand about their work to protect wildlife and habitats around the globe. Beyond being one of our city’s most iconic attractions, the Zoo is a cornerstone of San Diego’s tourism economy and a worldwide leader in conservation science. 🐝🐼🦁 | Council President Joe LaCava Councilmember, District 1 Follow me on social media to stay up to date. | |
