| | | New Standards Are Clear: Weight Stigma Has No Place in Healthcare A new set of care standards by the American Diabetes Association is challenging healthcare professionals to confront and eliminate weight stigma — a harmful barrier that too many people with obesity still face when seeking care. James Zervios, OAC's Chief Operating Officer who was featured in the article, comments, “A place where somebody should be able to be vulnerable… is one of the places where people say they experience weight bias the most.” The new guidelines aim to change that — calling for improvements in provider training, clinical environments and respectful communication. | Ensuring Access to Obesity Treatment for All Coloradans This month, we're proud to spotlight OAC Member and Colorado native Teddy McCullough, a passionate and vocal advocate sharing his journey with obesity. Access to obesity treatment is a matter of health, not appearance. In a compelling op-ed, Teddy shares how taking a GLP-1 medication transformed his health, helping him manage serious conditions like sleep apnea and prediabetes. Read more about his experience here. Yet far too many Coloradans, especially in underserved communities, still face barriers to this care. SB25-048 could change that — and it's now on Governor Polis’ desk. Urge him to sign it and help expand access to life-changing obesity treatments. |

| | | Compounded GLP-1s Update: With last week marking the end of availability for compounded GLP-1 medications, it’s more important than ever to prioritize access to safe, effective, FDA-approved treatments for obesity. Millions of Americans depend on these medications to manage a chronic disease, yet barriers like cost and insurance coverage continue to limit access. You can help change that. Take action now by signing our letter urging policymakers to make obesity treatments more accessible and affordable. If you want more information to navigate these changes watch our Fresh Perspectives episode here. |

 | Update on Texas HB2677 and Next Steps Thank you to everyone who supported Texas House Bill 2677, which would have expanded Medicaid coverage for comprehensive obesity care. While the bill didn’t make it to a vote before the May 15th deadline, its advancement through the legislative process is a huge victory. Your efforts helped shine a spotlight on the urgent need for better access to obesity care in Texas. Take action now - Ask Texas Lawmakers to Support Coverage for Obesity Care!
