👩⚖️ After an over six-month legal battle, Republican Jefferson Griffin finally accepted defeat and conceded the North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Race to Alison Riggs. This is a big win for our democracy and a big defeat for the MAGA movement in the South.
🧑🏫 Last week, judges ordered the repeat of Columbia student Mohsen Mahdawi from federal immigration custody. Mohsen was arrested during his citizenship interview, and while his release is a moment to be celebrated, we know that the fight to protect free speech on our campuses and due process of law is far from over.
⚖️ While Republicans passed their horrendous budget out of the House of Representatives, at the last minute, Speaker Johnson removed some of the most aggressive cuts to Medicaid — thanks to the pressure applied from everyday people nationwide. But we’ll be clear, John, this budget still represents the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in our nation’s history. Now we need to apply that pressure on the Senate to urge them to protect the safety nets families across the country rely on.
