How we’re fighting for a lasting future, and how you can take part.

Dear John,

What a warm spring we've had. It’s hard to begrudge such sunny weather, but this spring has been record-breaking for all the wrong reasons. With bright skies comes less rain, and rivers and reservoirs around the UK are at significant lows.

We always encourage enjoying the world we have right now. But nature is giving clear reminders that we need to ensure a lasting and – dare I say it – less sun-baked future. Read on for the latest ways we’re fighting  for that future  and how you can take part.

Meet the protectors of our planet’s forests

Indigenous peoples are the defenders of our planet's last precious lifeline – rainforests. But their knowledge and their rights are too often ignored.

So we were proud to witness the powerful “Rainforest Lifelines” ceremony a few weeks ago — held by Indigenous people from Sarawak, Malaysia, alongside partners from London. Watch our new video to hear their call on UK leaders to provide support and protect their rights in the race to save the world’s forests.

Our solidarity with Friends of the Earth Palestine

In April we had an incredibly moving visit from our sister organisation, PENGON – Friends of the Earth Palestine. They spoke with us about the 10 colleagues they’ve lost in the war in Gaza, the destruction of the Gazan environment and the power of solidarity. Watch this video to see their story. And read more about why we’re taking action on Palestine.

Fresh blow for the government’s Planning and Infrastructure bill

The UK government’s planning reforms could grant developers permission to wreck nature. Don’t believe us? Now even the government’s own watchdog has raised the alarm.

The Office for Environmental Protection says the bill would weaken legal protections for important habitats and wild species in the UK. A growing number of legal experts say the same. This is a blow for the government, which still wants us to believe its plans won’t erode protections for nature.

If you haven’t yet, please sign our action to stop these attacks on nature.

We’re going to the European Court over extreme weather

The UK government’s flawed response to climate breakdown threatens us all. Its national adaption programme is inadequate in dealing with the realities of the climate crisis and it fails to protect people at risk.

That’s why we’re joining two victims of the climate crisis in taking the government to the European Court of Human Rights.

Eco heating: what are the options?

Gas and oil boilers cost many of us a fortune in heating bills and that cost has soared since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. What’s more, burning fossil fuels to heat our homes is damaging the planet. So, with home heating one of the most polluting sectors in the UK, is it time to switch to electric?

Find out which eco heating is best for your home

Thanks for reading this month’s news round up. We'll be in touch again soon.

Best wishes,
