No images? Click here To mark World Press Freedom Day, we were pleased to showcase our work promoting media freedom in an exhibition at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. This display showcased courageous journalists who are reporting from conflict zones, as well as those who are facing legal persecution for their work to expose corruption. Our Director of Media Freedom Programmes, Will Church, spoke to Foreign Secretary David Lammy about the threats that journalists face and how the Foundation works to bolster the resilience of independent media across the globe. In the last year, we saw the threats against democracy continue to evolve and intensify - from attacks on journalists to the rampant spread of disinformation. In response, we've been scaling up and innovating our work. Our newly published 2024 annual report explores our achievements and impact throughout the year as we continue to strive for free, fair, and informed societies. ![]() May highlights from across the Foundation ![]() Strengthening Independent MediaWe're delighted that Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff - one of our 2024 fellows from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism - was nominated for Private Eye Magazine's Paul Foot Award for her investigation into British press coverage of missing people. The fellowship offers journalists from around the world with a unique opportunity to enhance their skills and expertise at the University of Oxford's Reuters Institute. Enabling Access to the LawOur new report - which will be released in full soon - includes comparative research on existing criminal defamation legislation across seven Southeast Asian countries: the Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam. It is designed to guide and support journalists and media outlets to navigate the complex legal landscape and protect their rights. Promoting Responsible BusinessWe're pleased to share the launch of our new AI Company Data Initiative (AICDI) platform. This is a voluntary survey to support businesses and investors in navigating the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence. The AICDI will provide vital information for investors on how businesses are using AI, and allow businesses to future-proof against potential risks and discover a roadmap to best practice. ![]() This month we recommend READ 📖
