Our food system is broken.
These are not normal times. All around us, systems of cruelty and oppression are at the forefront of national conversation. Our work has revealed again and again that where there’s cruelty to animals, there’s often exploitation of people, too.
You probably know that the vast majority of animals raised for food live on factory farms. At Tyson slaughterhouses and beyond, chickens are hung upside down by their fragile legs and are moved through the slaughter line at breakneck speed. Even during COVID-19, workers are standing shoulder-to-shoulder, exposed to a constant splatter of blood and feces. Disease and bacteria are everywhere.
The pandemic is shining a light on just how broken our systems are for both people and animals. This is an opportunity to demand change.
Right now, the meat industry is under scrutiny like never before. Because of this pressure, Tyson recently announced that it would end cruel live-shackle slaughter at 4 of its 35 chicken processing plants. But that is not enough!
Your gift will help to apply maximum pressure on companies like Tyson to provide safer working conditions and adopt meaningful animal welfare reforms across all facilities. When producers like Tyson commit to better standards, we can protect animals from the worst abuses and reform the entire food industry.
Now’s the time. Billions of animals are counting on us. This movement needs you—and we need to act fast.
Can you make your gift by June 30 to repair our broken food system?
This can be a defining moment for animals. Thank you for helping to seize it.
