America has been a leader in scientific innovation for decades. But now, President Trump is seeking to undo our progress by dramatically cutting funding for U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) grants.

The NSF provides grants for cutting-edge research at American universities, including millions of dollars to schools in California. You can thank NSF-funded research for so many things we take for granted today, like the internet and MRIs.

These cuts would do real damage. California won’t be able to adequately train the next generation of scientists and engineers, especially those who come from underrepresented backgrounds. Our country risks falling behind and losing its position as the global leader in science and technology.
