Dear John,
Why, might you ask, did I challenge the Honorable U.S. Rep Nicole Malliotakis to a Wednesday night debate over her vote on the GOP’s latest tax break for billionaires?
Because as the Chief Financial Officer of New York City, it is my duty to stand against “One Big Beautiful Bill” and its life-altering cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.
This piece of sh*t legislation would be disastrous for New York City’s economy and strip health care away from hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers — including families, veterans, disabled New Yorkers, and the elderly.
Unsurprisingly, Rep. Malliotakis did not show up to Good Lutheran Church tonight, John. I’ll assume it is because this esteemed legislator is terribly busy making the 4 million New Yorkers who rely on Medicaid less healthy and less safe.
So instead, I took questions from our shared constituents and listened to New Yorkers who know exactly how Rep. Malliotakis’s vote for “One Big Beautiful Bill” will screw them over.
Like Arlen, a member of Make the Road Action. As a senior living on a fixed income with Medicare and Medicaid, losing Medicaid would be disastrous for her. Or Karen Tadross, President of Bay Ridge Cares, who knows that cuts to SNAP will mean more families relying on local food pantries.
Let’s be clear: Republicans like Rep. Malliotakis are gutting Medicaid and SNAP to give their billionaire donors a tax break.
I’m running for Mayor because I love New York City — and because I know we need a leader who will step up and fight, even when MAGA Republicans from Washington are selling us out. That’s the kind of leadership we need in City Hall right now, but I need your help to get there.
We are $65,000 short in hard dollars as we wait for the dispersal of the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) matching funds. Can you make a contribution of $10 or any amount to my campaign today?
