Dear friends and partners, 

The end of the school year is in sight, and we have been busy celebrating our students, staff, and school communities as we prepare for the future in LAUSD. Last week, we cut the ribbon on Short Ave. Elementary’s new green space—one of the many greening projects underway in my district. I have also been grateful for all the recent opportunities to recognize the achievements of our wonderful teachers, classified staff, District partners—and the students who thrive because of their hard work and dedication.  

As we invest in the success of our school communities, the Board recently met to discuss the District’s long-term financial health ahead of our upcoming vote to approve next year’s budget. I will continue to advocate for a more transparent, student-centered, and data-driven process as we confront the impacts of declining enrollment and a looming state deficit.

Finally, in the Palisades, we have begun installation of portable classrooms and world-class air quality monitoring systems as the next phase to safely bring students from two fire-damaged schools back to their campuses as soon as the Fall semester. The school year is almost over, but our work continues to ensure that every student has the ability to learn and thrive in LAUSD.
