John,
As the proud daughter of a union family, I will always stand with workers in their fight for fair wages, benefits, and safe working conditions.
This month, my team held an “organize your workplace” training and we were joined by workers from Amazon, Starbucks, and more.
Across the country, workers are rising up and demanding their rights. And we need to have their backs.
Now, rank and file workers from Amazon Labor Union-International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1 (the first and only unionized Amazon store in the nation) have drafted a Safety Bill of Rights and they’re asking everyday people to sign on in support.
Click here to add your name to demand Amazon agree to the workers’ Safety Bill of Rights.
At the heart of this campaign are five non-negotiable demands:
- Right to Safe Staffing Levels
- Right to Humane Accommodations
- Right to Safe Equipment and Workspaces
- Right to Safe Temperatures and Clean Air
- Right to Safe Pace of Work and Real Breaks
An investigation by the U.S. Senate found that injuries in Amazon warehouses are 30% higher than the warehouse average. In our recent workplace training, Amazon workers shared a story of one of their colleagues dying on the job, and instead of stopping work, management had workers pile boxes around the body until an ambulance arrived.
Amazon made more than $36 BILLION in profits last year alone. Its founder, Jeff Bezos, is the second-richest person in the world. We cannot let Bezos and Amazon treat their workers as disposable. Worker safety is a human right!
Amazon workers write: “We are demanding that Amazon act immediately to ensure our safety or expect an end to business as usual. These are non-negotiable demands born out of daily pain, injury, retaliation, and abuse on the shop floor.”
Stand with Amazon workers and add your name today to demand Amazon respect the workers’ Safety Bill of Rights.
Thank you. I won’t stop advocating for Amazon workers’ right to a safe and fair working environment, including by pushing for OSHA investigations. I will continue fighting for working families, including pushing for nationwide paid leave and standing with workers striking for dignity. Together, we’re demanding corporations and the government put people first, not billionaires and corporate profits.
In solidarity,
Rashida
