DSA-LA Electoral Endorsement Guidelines
|
It’s that time of the year to start thinking about elections! The following is a brief overview of the endorsement timeline that the Electoral Politics Committee has developed for the 2026 elections. Next year's election will be a critical moment for DSA-LA as we work to defend our victories in Los Angeles as well as make inroads to advance our vision across the County. The website will be updated in the coming days with full details, but here is how timing will look:
2026 Endorsement Timeline
-
Phase One: City of Los Angeles (including City Attorney, etc.) & Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) races - May 6- July 11 2025
-
Phase Two: Los Angeles County Municipal, State Legislature, & Federal races - August 15 - November 7 2025 (Also Phase 1 candidates who filed after June 15)
-
Phase Three: Post-primary - June 2026- July 2026
When DSA-LA considers a candidate for endorsement, the chapter is considering whether or not that candidate/campaign should be a priority where we devote countless hours of organizing and mobilizing in support. A DSA-LA endorsement is used sparingly as it is a massive undertaking by the chapter and requires a lot of work and enthusiasm to pull off successfully. If you are a DSA-LA member in good standing and would like to initiate a petition, please submit this form.

DSA-LA Political Education Radical Cinema Club
|
Wednesday, May 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
|
One of the core tenets of the Political Education Committee is that education is not just about consuming the ‘right’ materials, but the generative act of collective discussion. With that in mind, we are proud to launch a new recurring Radical Cinema Club to meet and discuss a selection of classic films from a political education angle. The format will be similar to a book club – attendants should view the films at home prior to the event.
For our inaugural Radical Cinema Club meeting, we will be discussing Ken Loach’s “Bread and Roses” (2000). The event is open to the public and will be a great option not only for current members but for your DSA-curious friends as well.
Film Synopsis: Released towards the tail end of the 90’s labor resurgence period, this film presents a fictionalized narrative of a janitorial staff in downtown LA attempting to unionize their workplace. The story strongly echoes the justice for janitors campaign of 1990.

Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project - Stop the Monorail: Westwood
|
Thursday, May 29 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
|
The 405 between the San Fernando Valley and Westwood is the country’s most congested stretch of freeway, and at long last, the Los Angeles Metro has been working on an alternative to the 405—a long-needed public transit connection.
Homeowners associations are pushing for a low-density monorail option or for no option at all. The ex-CEO of Ticketmaster, Fred Rosen, has made killing this project his primary focus throughout his retirement in the hills. Angelenos deserve better. What we need are highly efficient and high-capacity heavyrail trains that are built for working class riders!
Join DSA-LA and other transit advocacy groups to demand that Metro delivers the system we need — affordable, efficient, and effective trains that carry the most riders and keep more cars off our roads.
RSVP below and we’ll send you some talking points prior to the meeting!

Press Conference: Fund the Public Bank Study
|
Friday, May 30 @ 8:45 am - 10:30 am
|
Rally with Eunisses Hernandez, Ysabel Jurado, Hugo Soto-Martinez, and a coalition of organizations to call on the rest of city council to fund the public bank study. The city is running a 1B deficit, and around 1/3 of that is in banking fees that could be avoided if we had a public bank.

Canvass for Stronger Rent Control in LA - CD5
|
Sunday, June 1 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
|
Do you think the rent’s too high? Let’s do something about it by talking with our neighbors about the need for stronger rent control and showing Katy Yaroslavsky that Angelenos support capping rent increases at 60% of CPI, and never more than 3%.
We’ll have snacks, and we’ll start with a training before pairing up newer canvassers with more experienced canvassers.
