Kenya

Born in a farming family, recent droughts made it difficult for 18-month-old Ereng to receive enough food every day. She eventually fell ill from malnutrition. A Save the Children community health promoter provided her and her mother with a therapeutic food treatment. Over the course of a couple of months, Ereng gained over 5.3 lbs and fully recovered.

Gaza

Morad*, now a year old, was born in war-torn Gaza with Cerebral Palsy and a breathing disorder called Laryngomalacia. Due to the conflict, Morad became malnourished and underdeveloped. Our team started providing Morad with medical care, including a malnutrition treatment with therapeutic peanut paste. Morad is now gaining weight.

Syria

John, in addition to protecting children from malnutrition, we also help children access health care, emergency shelter, education and mental health support in communities around the globe.

13-year-old Adnan* and his family lost contact with their father during the four times they’ve been displaced since the war started in Syria. While he’s since reunited with his father, the impact of the war has cost him his home, his education and his childhood. “The situation has been very difficult,” Adnan said. “I had to leave behind my books, notebooks, school bag, and everything else when we fled. We were so frightened. My parents came to the school to take us when we had to run away.” Today, as he finds refuge in a school-turned shelter, we’re providing his family with Ready-to-Eat kits, dignity kits, blankets, mattresses, and support to find alternative ways of learning.
