No child’s world should ever sound like this.
Last week, my good friend Janti – CEO of Save the Children – confronted the United Nations with a heartbreaking truth:
“The treatment of children in conflict is an expression and test of our collective humanity… and by most metrics, we seem to be failing this test.”
Kids are being injured, killed and traumatized by unspeakable violence in staggering numbers. Janti and I believe our leaders have an obligation to safeguard these innocent lives.

Hospitals should be safe havens, not war zones. Schools should be sanctuaries, not targets. And playgrounds should never become battlegrounds.
Yet in Ukraine alone, 90% of child casualties are caused by explosive weapons used in civilian areas.
A quarter of the country is contaminated with dangerous mines now. They’re scattered across neighborhoods, stashed away in furniture... even hidden in children’s toys.
