When crisis strikes, women and girls are the most vulnerable.
They are the first to go without food and lose access to education and essential care. They are increasingly exposed to domestic, sexual, and psychological violence used as weapons of war.
But here’s something that many people don’t think about: Periods do not stop while women and girls navigate the life-threatening dangers of emergencies.
That's why, on Menstrual Hygiene Day, we’re kickstarting our campaign to fund at least 2,500 Dignity Kits this summer. And we need caring people like you to support UNFPA Dignity Kits and ensure that even in the darkest of times, women and girls can manage their periods.
Make a gift today to deliver Dignity Kits and other emergency menstrual care items to women and girls who have been displaced and are struggling to survive dangerous crises around the world. We are aiming to raise enough that could deliver 2,500 Dignity Kits, so any gift you can make supplies hope and a sense of stability with essential reproductive items to the most vulnerable. Menstrual Hygiene Day brings together communities, world leaders, and advocates to normalize menstruation and address issues that menstruating women and girls face.
Girls like 12-year-old Nabaa living in war-torn Sudan, where millions have been displaced and most hospitals have been destroyed.
Nabaa arrived at a UNFPA shelter and got her period for the first time. She lost her mother and couldn’t ask her father for help with menstrual health. But UNFPA was there for her.
“They gave me this bag with sanitary napkins and clothes and taught me how to use them,” she said. “They guided me."
We deliver lifesaving care in the form of our Dignity Kits, which only cost $15 to create, but give women and girls the care they need during the most dangerous, isolated, and complex crises. These kits include menstrual pads, underwear, soap, laundry detergent, and other essential menstrual hygiene supplies. For many women and girls, these essential supplies are either unavailable or too expensive to afford every month.
UNFPA’s Dignity Kits ensure that, even in emergencies, women and girls can manage their periods with dignity.
