Dear Health Advocates,
Late last week, House Republicans passed their reconciliation budget package by a vote of 215-214 [[link removed]?] , with all Democrats opposed. The bill now moves on to the Senate. This bill will slash $800 Billion in funding for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, cause 15 million Americans to lose their health coverage and become uninsured, and raise costs for millions more, all to fund tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations.
You can find a statement from Families USA Executive Director Anthony Wright here [[link removed]] .
House Republicans jammed this bill through in the dark of night, only 10 days after its introduction and mere hours after massive changes were made to the text. Instead of working to lower costs or improve the health care system for all of us, House Republicans voted to shred the safety net in one fell swoop, which will have disastrous consequences.
But health, consumer, and community advocates and the millions of Americans we represent will remember this vote. Now we turn our attention to the Senate with the same message: No Cuts to Medicaid, the ACA or other vital health programs [[link removed]] !
