** Act TODAY against ICE in our courts
------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, we learned that two people were detained by ICE ([link removed]) at the immigration courthouse at 100 Montgomery. This is part of a series of federal operations which, as reported by the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice ([link removed]) , are placing ICE agents in immigration courthouses in order to detain people who show up for their asylum hearings and other scheduled visits. They’re following the burdensome processes our federal laws put them through, and now ICE is punishing them for it.

We are outraged by this news, and we stand with our community of immigrants. We cannot let our legal immigration system be weaponized for state-sanctioned kidnappings.

This is the time when we cannot be silent, and we must act.

Here’s what to do right now:
1. TODAY, Wednesday May 28 at 9:30 AM at the corner of Montgomery and Sutter, join legal and community advocates in a rally & press conference to condemn ICE operations at immigration courts. Spread the word about this critical action: we need to get as many people here as possible to stand strong against ICE.

2. Find your local Rapid Response network and learn your rights. If you personally see ICE activity, you can call that network’s hotline number to report it. Do not spread unsubstantiated rumors or social media posts.
1. The San Francisco Rapid Response Network is SFILEN ([link removed]) and their hotline is (415) 200-1548.
2. Know Your Rights materials are available at the Immigrant Defense Project ([link removed]) .
3. You can get know-your-rights red cards and hand them to people you know, or businesses, at ILRC ([link removed]) .

3. Demand that our DA Brooke Jenkins stop sending people to ICE. In the face of the horrors threatening our immigrant communities, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins is opening even more doors to ICE. She is doing an end-run around our city’s sanctuary laws by allowing federal officials to arrest people whose cases are dropped by the city; those federal officials then turn them in to ICE.
Let your supervisors know ([link removed]) that you are concerned and push for them to put an end to it.

4. Oppose the ICE Detention Center at FCI Dublin. ICE is considering reopening the notorious FCI Dublin federal prison as an immigration detention center. FCI Dublin was shut down last year after survivors exposed years of staff sexual abuse, retaliation, medical neglect, and unsafe conditions. Before its closure, non-citizen inmates were especially targeted for abuse.
Handing this facility over to ICE—an agency with its own history of mistreatment—would only perpetuate harm. Research shows that communities with ICE detention centers experience increased ICE activity and arrests, making everyone less safe. Three Northern California ICE detention centers have closed in recent years, improving community safety.
Join us in urging our representatives ([link removed]) to publicly oppose reopening FCI Dublin as an ICE detention center and to support its permanent closure. Our community deserves better.

The People’s Budget: RALLY, CALL, Keep up the pressure
------------------------------------------------------------
Indivisible SF is fighting alongside the People’s Budget Coalition for a budget that protects the freedom and future thriving of all our people and families in San Francisco. A budget is a moral document and an expression of values. We know that all people, no matter where they live, what they look like, or who they love, deserve safety and well-being.

Our city’s next budget is currently being crafted. But contrary to our values, our communities are on the chopping block. Year after year, we see more and more cuts to needed services while the budget for the police gets more and more bloated—especially with massive overtime spending ([link removed]) . The Board of Supervisors published an audit of police overtime ([link removed]) last year, but they have yet to take action.

We at Indivisible SF Local and State Action collaborate with others to fight for our values right here in San Francisco. We join with The People’s Budget Coalition ([link removed]) , a part of SF Rising ([link removed]) who convenes 150 non profit organizations, unions and advocates working to democratize the city budget to make sure every voice is heard.

Here’s what you can do.

* Join the People’s Budget Rally on Wednesday, June 4, at 12 PM on the stairs of City Hall.
* Call the Mayor and your Supervisor ([link removed]) to make sure they know what we stand for. We want a city where our budget protects the freedom and future thriving of all our people and families.
Here are some things you can ask for:
+ Oppose $90 million of additional police overtime.
+ Pressure Airbnb to drop its lawsuit against paying its taxes, and demand the taxes be paid
+ Ask for a SF Wealth Tax
+ Protect public arts funding ([link removed])
* Email Airbnb ([link removed]) , which is refusing to be a good neighbor and pay what it owes in taxes.
* Leave a public comment ([link removed]) on Monday, June 23 at 10 AM at City Hall to increase funding for the Public Defender’s office.

** Tell voters in red states: Pressure YOUR Congress members to vote NO on the budget.
------------------------------------------------------------
The “Big Ugly Reconciliation Bill ([link removed]) ” passed the House last week, and faces an uphill battle in the Senate. Unfortunately, this bill confirms our greatest fears as written. Between cuts to Medicaid, food aid (SNAP), and other services, MAGA cuts will take an average of $700 out of the take-home pay of people earning from $17,000 to $51,000 starting next year, and more thereafter. On the other hand, those with incomes over $4.3 million will receive an extra $389,000 or more on average in their after-tax income in 2026.

The fight is not over, and we are keeping tabs on this bill. Since the service cuts run so deep in it, it is a third rail for many red-state Senators. We need to let voters in red states know what their Senators are about to do, and get them to raise holy hell about it.
