VE Day 80th Anniversary Events

It was really good to be able to mark VE Day by attending Maesteg Town Council's VE Day 80th anniversary concert at Maesteg Town Hall this month.

Children from the local primary schools sang a really touching rendition of Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again'.

I was equally honoured to attend Port Talbot Royal British Legion's tree planting ceremony in Taibach Memorial Park as part of events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

An audio post has also been installed for people to learn more about the sacrifices made.

It was a privilege to attend Aberafan Shopping Centre's VE Day street party, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The event started with a veteran's march through the centre, followed by a flag raising ceremony and the street party, along with some really moving speeches.

Port Talbot Steelworks Visit

It was good to visit the steelworks with our First Minister Eluned Morgan, and my colleague David Rees MS for Aberavon this month.

We met with trade unions and steelworkers to discuss the current challenges and future opportunities of steelmaking here in Port Talbot.

In It Together Festival

My third year of the In It Together festival, and it just gets better and better!

The Kaiser Chiefs absolutely smashed it, and I even got to be their warm-up act!

Urdd Eisteddfod

I had a hugely enjoyable morning at the Urdd Eisteddfod; it was lovely to spend time at our Aberafan Maesteg Labour Party stall.

We are so lucky to have this fantastic Welsh cultural event in Margam this year.

Ferry Fest

Fantastic community spirit and vibes at the Briton Ferry “Ferry Fest”, including the famous Pram Parade!

And the winner was the Sewing Bees! Congrats on those amazing outfits.

It was great to be joined by Councillors Gareth Rice and Sarah Davies.

Port Talbot Food Festival

Once again the Viva Port Talbot Food Festival brought a real buzz to the town centre. From local food and drink, to entertainment on the civic square, there was something for everyone.

Well done to everyone involved in running this fantastic local event.

Curtain Up Youth Theatre

There was a packed house at Maesteg Town Hall when I went to see Curtain Up Youth Theatre’s absolutely brilliant performance of the Wizard of Oz.

It was such a privilege to meet the wonderful and very talented cast & legendary production team backstage after the show!

Andrew Vaughan John's British Empire Medal

Lovely ceremony at The Orangery to celebrate my good friend Andrew Vaughan John being awarded the British Empire Medal, for services to charity and business.

Andrew has done so much for our community through building incredibly successful local business Pump Supplies, leading and supporting Aberavon Rugby Club through thick and thin and contributing to local causes like our Christmas parade.

Congratulations Andrew, it was fabulous to see how proud your family is of all you have accomplished!

Advice Surgeries

I held an advice surgery in Aberavon this month.

I spoke to constituents about a range of topics and helped them to resolve issues they were having on everything from help with benefits to issues with rights and the law, and a whole range of others too.
