My name is Elina and I am a volunteer Peer Farmer for Send a Cow Zambia. I work with families in my community to help them get the most from their land. But before they can work effectively on their land, it is important they are healthy.
 
Before Send a Cow came to my community, there was no access to clean water and family hygiene and sanitation was poor. After receiving hygiene and sanitation training myself, I continued to train many other families to build their own tip taps. 
 
I teach families how washing their hands can prevent them from getting sick. I am so happy to see that now people do not fall ill so often. If families are healthy, parents can work on their land and children can play and learn.

Times are changing for us now due to coronavirus and there is a lot of uncertainty in the community.
I'm working harder than ever to 
promote handwashing to keep 
families safe. 
 
As well as teaching families how to build tip taps, I am sharing the importance of using soap. I am sharing the message that washing hands can literally save lives.

I am encouraging social distancing and families to stay at home where possible. They are understandably worried as isolated at home they may not have access to enough seeds, food and income to sustain them. If I can help families to stay healthy, they can use the seeds we provide them with to plant this growing season and be resilient in the future. 

I’m incredibly proud of the training I have received from Send a Cow. I consider myself ‘rich’ because of the training I have received. Wherever I go, I will remain productive and share what I have learned.
