Right now, Congress is working on passing a budget reconciliation package that includes an amendment that would block states from passing or enforcing any state laws regarding AI regulations for the next 10 years.

If this bill passes, that means no protections against AI-generated deep fakes, no guardrails for election interference, and no tools to stop AI from being used to deceive, exploit, or harass consumers.

That’s why Attorney General Anthony Brown joined a bipartisan letter urging Congress to reject this reckless amendment and ensure our communities remain protected.

AI has the potential to create new jobs and drive economic growth in Maryland. However, with no meaningful federal regulations in place to protect Americans from AI's evolving potential threats to our communities, state leaders like AG Brown are the last line of defense.

We must preserve our states’ ability to protect our residents while AI technology continues to develop, especially when federal safeguards don’t yet exist.
