John -
Today's landmark Supreme Court decision is a massive victory for LGBTQIA+ rights.
Until today, it was legal in more than half of the country to fire an employee for their sexual orientation or gender identity.
All Americans should have the fundamental right to feel safe in their communities, and work at a job without fear of being fired over their sexual orientation or gender identity. I'm proud to fight for policies to combat discrimination, inequity, and injustice.
For the first time ever, "equal protection under the law" will include members of our LGBTQIA+ community in the workplace. But we still have a long way to go before we are all equal. We must continue to fight for those same protections in restrooms, restaurants, and more.
Last year, I proudly co-sponsored the Equality Act, which put the issue to rest by prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Our bill passed the House with a decisive majority, but Mitch McConnell - as always - is doing everything he can to halt our country's progress.
So we must not let up, John. Today we celebrate this monumental victory we've worked so hard for and tomorrow we continue the fight for equality.
Courage,
Earl
