Last year, hate and extremist groups rallied in unity to attack anti-discrimination efforts by criticizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives, or DEI.

Some resorted to threats of violence to create chaos, opening the door for political strongmen and authoritarian measures. Highly financed national right-wing advocacy organizations courted politicians and championed male supremacist thinking. And the dangerous myth of “white genocide” made its way into the mainstream.

We tracked 1,361 hate and antigovernment extremist groups across the United States in 2024 — and their supporters in high places.

This is critical: Right now, we’re not just fighting hate and extremism. We’re also fighting for our fundamental right to speak out when we see injustice. And when you fight back alongside the Southern Poverty Law Center, you’re doing more than responding to hate — you’re helping stop it at the source by shining a light on hate groups before they can cause harm.

Friend, the Improving Reporting to Prevent Hate Act would be an important next step towards accountability and justice for victims of hate violence. Take action now and urge your legislators to support this necessary legislation. ([link removed])
