John,
In a “significant loss for Trump,” the U.S. Supreme Court recently blocked
the Trump administration from deporting more immigrants through the Alien
Enemies Act of 1798.

Act deportations
The Court said the administration violated a group of Venezuelan
immigrants' right to due process by trying to deport them with less than
24 hours' notice.
But this fight isn’t over,
John. This is a surprising step in the right
direction by the Court, but it could only be temporary, as they sent the
case back to the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals for further review.
Now, courts continue to wrestle with whether or not Trump’s use of this
wartime law to carry out rapid deportations is legal, and how much time
immigrants must be given to plead their case.
We know Trump and his far-right team won’t give up their mass deportation
agenda so easily — they’re already criticizing the courts for slowing down
their ability to deport immigrants as quickly as possible.
