This week marks one year since we launched this campaign. Thinking back to that moment last June, I remember one of the challenges I knew we would face right off the bat would be keeping up with our opponent’s fundraising, especially since I knew I wasn’t going to take a single donation from corporate PACs.

Luckily, we didn’t have to worry. Immediately after I announced my candidacy, a retiree from Charlotte named Terry made a $10 contribution. Seconds later, a chef from Wilmington named Daniel chipped in $5… and a nurse from Chapel Hill named Katherine gave $100… and suddenly, we had a movement.

We’ve only built on that momentum. Our campaign is ahead in the polls and even outraising our Republican opponent by more than 2:1 — and we’ve relied on individual donations from folks like you each step of the way.

But today, we face our toughest challenge yet: Tens of millions of dollars in negative attacks coming from Mitch McConnell and his allies hoping to save my opponent from losing his seat.
