"CenterPoint saw 167,000 power outages in Houston area after severe storms,” Houston Chronicle's Caroline Wilburn -- "The Houston area saw power outages, with the most widespread outages to the north, and downed trees as severe thunderstorms moved across the region early Tuesday.
Nearly 100,000 customers experienced power outages around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, with CenterPoint Energy reporting 1,063 outages affecting 83,488 customers and Entergy reporting 11,000 without power in Montgomery County.
The outages had dropped to around 66,000 for CenterPoint and around 9,000 for Entergy as of 9:20 a.m.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said he spoke with power companies Tuesday morning as crews were already working to restore power across the county.
"Last night's storm was similar to a Category 1 hurricane blowing through the county," Keough wrote on Facebook. "Thankfully the power outages are not as large as what we experience during a hurricane and for the most part should be online sometime today."
Thunderstorms also brought heavy winds and some damage. A home in northwest Harris County was damaged when a large tree fell onto the roof, Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said on social media.
Multiple fire crews battled a blaze in the attic of a Woodlands home in the 2000 block of Bennet Lane after it was apparently struck by lightning, according to The Woodlands Fire Department. No one was injured in the fire, according to officials." Hou Chron ($)
