When I began, I expected a typical learning experience. What I found instead was an encouraging, empowering community that changed my life. With the support of our program manager, Darrell, and my fellow interns, it felt more like a family growing together. Having a space where I could speak freely and not be embarrassed to ask questions was freeing. I feel lucky to have found a place as welcoming and supportive as this one so early in my life.
Before this internship, I was shy and socially anxious. I have been a part of many organizations and activities for youth, however none of them came close to leaving the lasting impact that this movement has. I’ve begun to find my voice–and the power my voice can have. |
