I’ll be direct with you, John: Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy. Let me tell you what I mean by that:

Just a couple of weeks ago, the President of the United States of America employed the National Guard to disperse a crowd of peaceful protesters outside of the White House with flash-bang explosions and tear gas -- just so that he could have a photo-op outside of St. John’s Church.

This bears repeating: Donald Trump used a painful chemical agent on peaceful, law-abiding American citizens so that he could spend seven minutes taking pictures. And what more? He told the press he thought the situation was “handled very well.”

John, we all know that this behavior is not only unconscionable, but downright dangerous. I fear for the health and safety of our nation if we continue to bear the brunt of Trump’s outlashes -- which is why I’m asking you to step up today. We have the power and the opportunity to keep Trump from another four years in office and elect leaders of moral character, but only if Democrats take action early, when it matters most.
