John,
COVID-19 has impacted everyone’s lives differently. For some, it has led to extended periods of time spent at home; for others, it has meant longer shifts at work providing essential services to the community.
But for many in Maricopa County, COVID-19 has had a particularly difficult impact resulting in unemployment. In uncertain times like these, it may be tough to know where to turn for help, which is why I want to share some important resources.
If you are recovering from unexpected job loss due to the pandemic, you can file for Unemployment Insurance Benefits here. You will need to provide your social security number, mailing address, driver license or state-issued ID number, and employment history.
The Arizona Department of Economic Security put together a step-by-step guide to assist those who are applying, with special instructions for those impacted by COVID-19. Their website also includes information about the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, a temporary program created by the federal government to assist those who are otherwise not eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits.
I encourage you to share this information with anyone in your community who may need it. Maricopa County has been hit hard by this pandemic, but I am confident that we can get through this crisis by taking care of each other and working together.
Thank you,
— Sheriff Paul Penzone
