Dear John, When I search “physician-assisted suicide” on Google, the results are consistent: “Help is available.” The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number (988) is prominently displayed, and I’m encouraged to “speak with someone today.” But if I were medically vulnerable – facing a terminal illness or even a condition like anorexia, arthritis, or diabetes – physician-assisted suicide would be considered a legitimate option under Oregon law. The trend is alarming. The Oregon “Death With Dignity Act” data summary from 2024 reported an 8% increase in physician-assisted suicide prescriptions from 2023 – which was already up 30% from 2022. Right now, our team is developing projects to help unveil the tragic reality of so-called “Death With Dignity,” and we need your help. Do you have a personal story about physician-assisted suicide? Maybe . . .
