I just want to take a moment to share some positive news, in case you haven't heard yet: today the Supreme Court of the United States held that firing someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity violates our civil rights.
While this is a substantial win, we know that basic civil rights are just that - basic. This Pride Month, and every moment forward, we need to ensure that this community can thrive. That means:
* Equality of access and treatment for physical and mental health care;
* Education and community efforts towards inclusion to end the higher rates of intimate partner violence towards LGBTQIA+ Americans; and
* Reevaluating our public safety measures and policing to ensure the wellbeing of every community member - regardless of their skin color - so that Trans men and women of color are safe.
Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, the work continues.
More soon,
Jim
