I want to give you a quick heads-up about a new change coming to the Bx5 bus route that you might notice starting this Tuesday, May 27th. The MTA is launching Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) on this line to help keep buses running on time and bus stops clear and safe.

Here’s what that means:

Cameras will be installed on Bx5 buses to identify cars that are blocking bus stops, double-parked, or driving in bus-only lanes. These cameras won’t ticket you right away — there’s a 60-day warning period where only warning notices will be sent out. After that, real violations will come with a fine.

Why is this happening?

When bus lanes and stops are blocked, it slows down everyone’s commute, especially our seniors, students, and essential workers who rely on the Bx5 every day. This new system is about making our buses faster, more reliable, and safer for all of us.

Quiero informarles sobre un nuevo cambio que llegará a la ruta del autobús Bx5 a partir del 27 de mayo. La MTA implementará el programa de Aplicación Automatizada con Cámaras (ACE) en esta línea para ayudar a que los autobuses lleguen a tiempo y que las paradas se mantengan despejadas y seguras.

¿En qué consiste esto?

Se instalarán cámaras en los autobuses Bx5 para identificar vehículos que bloquean las paradas, están doblemente estacionados o circulan por carriles exclusivos para autobuses. Estas cámaras no emitirán multas de inmediato — durante los primeros 60 días solo se enviarán avisos de advertencia. Después de ese período, las infracciones sí estarán sujetas a multas.

¿Por qué se está haciendo esto?

Porque cuando se bloquean los carriles y las paradas de autobús, se retrasa todo el servicio — y eso afecta especialmente a nuestros adultos mayores, estudiantes y trabajadores esenciales que dependen del Bx5 todos los días. Este nuevo sistema busca que los autobuses sean más rápidos, seguros y confiables para todas y todos.
