Attorney General William Barr gave the order for Americans peacefully protesting centuries of racist oppression to be tear-gassed and shot with rubber bullets.

Then, Barr focused his attention on deploying battalions of U.S. troops to the streets of the nation's capital – all in an appalling show of military force against the American people.

The state of our democracy was dire enough when Barr was just Donald Trump's political henchman. But now that he has helped this president weaponize the U.S. military to silence calls for justice and threaten our most fundamental constitutional rights, my previous demands for Barr's resignation are only further justified.

At the end of the day, our justice system depends on its credibility and the respect of the American people. Time and again, William Barr has undermined that credibility and respect through his willingness to abuse power in service of Trump's personal bidding. From forestalling justified calls for Trump's impeachment to moving to drop the convictions of Trump's former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, there seems to be no depth where Barr will not sink.

Demanding Barr's resignation isn't about politics. It isn't about party. It is about protecting our very democracy against the authoritarian tendencies of this president and all those in his cabinet who enable him – and Attorney General Barr is one of the worst offenders.

At a moment like this, with so much on the line, it's never been more critical for every single one of us to speak out and demand accountability for this dangerous abuse of power. And that begins with Barr's resignation. That's why I need you to speak out right now by signing my petition:
