We are facing a unique paradox right now.

The pandemic that has engulfed the world, and the anguish playing out on the streets of American cities, continue to demonstrate the importance of state and local leadership like never before. We are seeing every single day how much of a difference leadership makes in roles and offices far from the White House.

At the same time, this president is taking up even more of the oxygen -- and his failure to lead during this crisis is rightfully causing tremendous outrage while making it harder than ever to focus attention on the critical work we have to do to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November.

This is why we launched Win the Era -- to draw attention to candidates running for every office, from Governor to County Supervisors, and to make sure they have the resources they need to compete and win, in order to serve and lead.

Our world has changed so profoundly in the last three months, and the months and years ahead will be pivotal.

All of it shows that our efforts cannot only be focused on electing one candidate to one office for a two or four-year term. We have to build something much larger -- a new kind of politics -- starting right now in 2020. We can shape the road ahead and propel us to do more than win just one election, but win the era that must come next.

These are difficult, painful times -- but I’m more convinced than ever that if we make the right decisions during this defining moment, we can meet the challenges we face and emerge stronger.
