John,
Five years ago, the world watched as George Floyd’s life was taken by police violence. His murder ignited protests in many states, inspired global solidarity, and sparked conversations about racial justice and police accountability.
You created that movement — the people, not politicians. It was your outrage, your organizing, your marching, and your vision that forced the world to pay attention. But the fight for true justice — a system that values Black lives, safety, and dignity — remains far from over. Even when it does not feel like it, we still have the power to use our voices and our votes to make an impact. Let us not just remember what happened, let us decide what happens next. So what can we do now?
We can vote about it.
We can vote for our communities.
And we can vote for our futures.
Because voting for leaders at every level — mayors, sheriffs, city councilmembers, judges — is a foundational step in building justice systems that reflect the people they serve. And in 2025, local elections are happening all over the country — elections that will shape how justice is delivered in our neighborhoods, towns, and cities.
That is why we must combine our activism in the streets with our voices at the ballot box — because when we vote in every election and for every office, we take our power back.
