Good Morning Revolution: The Decline & Fall of "Western" Marxism
Since World War 2, there have been only two social revolutions in the West: Cuba in 1959 and Portugal’s Carnation Revolution in 1974. Asia has fared better with China, Vietnam, and Laos’ attempts to lay the material basis for socialist transition. Attempts in Africa and Latin America were either overthrown, as in Ghana and Chile, rejected, or faultily conceived.
Why is it that in Europe and the U.S., the countries of developed capitalism, once powerful Communist, Workers, and Socialist parties seemed to lose momentum, stall out, and in the worst cases, collapse? As capitalist crisis deepens, is there still a path forward for the Left? |
