Hi John,

Today’s SCOTUS decision is a major victory in our continuous fight for LGBTQ equality.

In a 6-3 decision, the justices declared that LGBTQ employees are protected from gender identity and sexual orientation-based discriminations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. For the majority, Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote, “An employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender defies the law.”

No one should be fired from their job or discriminated against based on who they are or whom they love. And today’s decision is just one step in the right direction.

As the Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, a Vice Chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, and a member of the Transgender Equality Task Force, I am proud to have co-authored the amicus brief in support of these critical cases. I will continue working to ensure every American here in Pennsylvania and across the country is treated equal under the law.

As we continue to celebrate Pride, we must commit ourselves to achieving full equality.

We cannot go backward, only forward.

The fight goes on,
Mary Gay
