Dear Friend, Please take a moment to read and share my recent Op-Ed in the Herald Leader: [link removed] Over the last 8 years of serving the people of Central and Eastern Kentucky, I am proud of our office’s many accomplishments. I helped pass historic tax cuts, which reduced the tax burden for the average family in the Sixth District by over $2,000 and led to the lowest unemployment rate in over 50 years. I authored the toughest sanctions ever directed at North Korea, and recently I coauthored legislation that weakens China’s grip on the U.S. economy. I helped pass the VA Mission Act, the most transformational reform to the VA health system in history. And I also established the Sixth District Drug Abuse Task Force to secure federal funding and assistance to addiction recovery organizations, plus much more. But beyond these successes, my proudest work is my response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I crafted several crucial lending programs that saved jobs, kept workers on the payroll, and gave small businesses and their workers a lifeline to get through the shutdown. I secured personal protection equipment from the Strategic National Stockpile and collaborated with epidemiologists to bring innovative telehealth services to the fight against COVID-19. I was also appointed to serve on the China Task Force by Leader McCarthy to hold China accountable for mishandling and covering up the COVID-19 outbreak. I am often asked how I prepare for my next set of opponents or how I intend to wage my next political campaign. My response has always been the same: If I work hard to do the job I was elected to do, the politics will take of itself. That work continues.
