Hi John,
Last week, the UK’s Minister for Development, Baroness Chapman, signalled that gender equality and education may be deprioritised in the next foreign aid budget ([link removed]) . This is deeply concerning, given clear evidence that past aid cuts hit women, girls, and marginalised groups the hardest.
Vital services are now at risk, including:
* Sexual and reproductive healthcare
* Protection from violence
* Access to education
* Support for women with disabilities
The Minister has spoken in favour of gender mainstreaming (having gender support running as a thread through all areas), and this is also vital, but it cannot replace funding focused specifically on meeting the needs of women and girls.
TAKE ACTION: Write your local MP now ([link removed])
Why would funding cuts matter?
Because in every crisis, women and girls suffer first and worst:
* 80% of those displaced by climate change are women and girls (1)
* 60% of the world’s severely hungry are women and girls (2)
* In conflict, women are twice as likely to experience sexual or physical violence (3)
Cutting support for women and girls can open dangerous gaps in services and capacity for shelters, clinics, and schools. It risks long-term harm and undoing hard-won progress.
We know that when women thrive, whole communities and economies prosper, and societies become more peaceful. Therefore, protecting funding for women and girls is a moral and economic necessity.

On 11 June, the UK Parliament will set the UK’s aid budget for the next three years. Let’s let our elected representatives know how much funding for women and girls matters to us.
Will you write to your MP today and ask them to protect standalone funding for women and girls?
If you’ve never written to your MP before, don’t worry, we’ve made it simple: just click below for our email template and a step-by-step guide. You can send the template email as is, or add your own reasons for speaking out.

But time is short. We have less than three weeks to make our voices heard. Please act now.
Thank you for standing with women and girls around the world.
In solidarity,
