Jack,
For many communities—especially rural and underserved ones—NPR and PBS are
lifelines. Federal funding makes up half or more of the budgets of some local
stations. These stations are not only sources of news, but also provide crucial
cultural, educational, and emergency services, for example:
* Educational children's shows like Sesame Street
* Groundbreaking science and history through Nova and American Experience
* Trusted news from PBS NewsHour
* Programming that tackles mental health and wellness
* Emergency alerts for natural disasters, outages, and public safety issues

To attempt to defund these services is to deprive those living in
America—particularly in smaller or more remote communities—access to
non-commercial, community-centered media. It is also a direct threat to the
First Amendment, which protects the free press from government interference or
reprisal. This executive order could and should be challenged on constitutional
grounds.

Trump from cutting public media

We are urging Congress to:
* Reject any legislation or attempts to cut federal funding for public media
* Speak up and oppose Trump’s executive order and support legal efforts to
challenge it
* Reaffirm their commitment to a free and independent press as a cornerstone
of American democracy
This is a defining moment. Public media must be protected—not dismantled
Sign this petition to urge Congress to oppose Trump and stop defunding of NPR
and PBS
