Neighbors,
This week, I had the opportunity to speak directly with Ward 7 residents at a community town hall hosted at St. Coletta of Greater Washington. We gathered to discuss the proposed redevelopment of the RFK Stadium site and what it could mean for the future of Ward 7. I’m grateful to the hundreds of residents who joined the conversation and shared their excitement, hopes, and concerns. These discussions are essential as we work to ensure that any redevelopment delivers real benefits such as affordable housing, good-paying jobs, and accessible recreation for residents in Ward 7 and across the District.
Looking ahead, we expect to receive the Mayor’s proposed budget next Tuesday, May 27. This will begin a critical period of budget oversight, where the Council will work to ensure the final plan reflects the priorities and needs of all our communities. I remain committed to pushing for investments that uplift every corner of the District.
Thank you for staying engaged. I look forward to continuing this dialogue with neighbors across the city.
In service,
Kenyan

Speaking with Ward 7 Residents About the Future of RFK Stadium
Last night, I had the opportunity to speak directly with Ward 7 residents at a community town hall focused on the proposed redevelopment of the RFK Stadium site. It was energizing to engage with so many neighbors about what this project could mean for the future of Ward 7 and our city.
I emphasized that this redevelopment is more than just a stadium proposal; it is a chance to bring real, lasting benefits to the community through thoughtful investment in housing, recreation, small business opportunities, and job creation. The proposed Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) is a critical part of that vision, and I’m committed to ensuring it reflects the priorities of residents: local hiring, youth engagement, and equitable development.
We have a rare opportunity to transform a major parcel of land into something that serves District residents, not just today but for generations to come. As your At-Large Councilmember, I will continue to push for a redevelopment deal that puts District residents at the center and holds all partners accountable.
I look forward to continued conversations in the weeks ahead as we work together to shape a project that delivers for our communities.
Bringing Retail Investment to D.C.
Last week, I traveled to Las Vegas to represent the District at the 2025 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference, the premier national gathering of retail and commercial real estate leaders. As your At-Large Councilmember, I am focused on driving economic opportunity across all eight wards, and this conference was an important chance to do just that.
My purpose in attending was clear: to promote Washington, D.C. as a thriving and equitable marketplace, and to attract new businesses, especially to areas that have long been overlooked by national retailers. I met with developers, brokers, and corporate representatives to highlight the District’s economic strengths, the vibrancy of our neighborhoods, and the critical need for expanded retail access in communities east of the river and beyond.
I remain committed to creating a stronger, more equitable D.C. economy, and that starts with making sure every resident can shop, work, and build wealth right in their own neighborhood.

Neighbors,
Beginning June 1, PEPCO will increase its electricity rates, with the changes appearing on July bills. This rise is due to two main factors: higher regional demand for electricity and the retirement of several power plants, which has reduced energy supply.
I want to ensure every resident is informed and equipped with tools and resources to manage these changes:
