HFA supports Black communities in the fight for social justice
At Hunger Free America, we say enough. George Floyd's brutal murder and the disproportionate suffering of Black Americans due to the Covid-19 crisis have again exposed long-standing inequity in America. Hunger Free America proudly stands with Black communities in the fight for social justice.

"When we say today that Black Lives Matter (and Hunger Free America does emphatically say that), we must include not just the right not to be killed or unfairly targeted by police, but also the right to obtain food, housing, and other lifesaving necessities."
— HFA CEO Joel Berg

Action Alert: Advocate for the Senate to Pass the Heroes Act
At Hunger Free America, we believe everyone has a right to nutritious, affordable food. The Heroes Act ([link removed][UNIQID]) , which passed the House nearly four weeks ago, would significantly decrease hunger across the country while increasing economic activity for local food retailers. Contact your S ([link removed][UNIQID]) enator ([link removed][UNIQID]) and voice your support for the Heroes Act. Through measures such as expanding the minimum monthly SNAP benefit from $16 to $30 and extending the Pandemic-EBT program, the Heroes Act will stem skyrocketing rates of hunger, particularly for millions of children.
Hunger Relief Through Pandemic-EBT
Hunger Free America applauds New York State's response to child hunger by automatically enrolling families with school-age children in Pandemic-EBT ([link removed][UNIQID]) . Under this program, every family in NYC with a child enrolled in public school will receive $420 per child to cover the cost of school meals no longer being received due to school closures. We encourage all NYC families who are facing financial hardships to use their P-EBT funds and to contact us with any questions about this program. And we urge families who are on strong financial footing to use their P-EBT benefits at local businesses and farmers markets and then donate an equivalent amount to nonprofit organizations such as Hunger Free NYC ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
HFA is excited to have partnered with the Step Out the Hunger Challenge ([link removed][UNIQID]) for the month of June. The goal of the challenge is to stay healthy and active during the Covid-19 crisis while tackling hunger through targeted donations. A big thank you to everyone who is participating!
Volunteer Remotely: Covid-19 Database Research
Even before the current health and economic crises, 37 million Americans were struggling with hunger. Throughout the last few months, Hunger Free America has been compiling information about emergency food programs across the country in a centralized database ([link removed][UNIQID]) so that those who are in need of food know where to turn. This database has been constructed with the support of numerous volunteers — all working remotely. But there is more research that needs to be done! We invite you to participate in this remote volunteer opportunity ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
