Last weekend, I hosted the grand opening of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition at the Mint Museum Uptown. This competition recognizes the rich artistic talents of our country’s young people and offers them the opportunity to have their artwork celebrated at the national level.
For the tenth year in a row, our District is represented by exceptional young artists whose winning artwork will be displayed in my offices and in the U.S. Capitol for one year. As an art professor of forty years and a practicing artist, I was excited by the passion and creativity shown by our students during this year’s competition.
During this event, we honored the young artists who submitted their work and recognized our 2025 winners:
1st Place: "Thicket of Temptation" – Charcoal
by De'Andre Birtha, West Charlotte Highschool
2nd Place: (Honorable Mention): “Clarity” – Graphite
by Alex Hatcher, Metrolina Christian Academy
3rd Place: “Touch of Light” – Watercolor/Mixed Media
by Tati’Yanna Gillespie, Mallard Creek High School
4th Place: “Where Do I Find Peace” – Digital Collage

All of the pieces entered will remain on display for the public at the Mint Museum until June 8th.
