Memorial Day

Image

This Monday we will commemorate Memorial Day, a time to honor the brave servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. It is more than just a long weekend; it is a solemn reminder of the cost of liberty. As we gather with family and friends, let us take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the courage of the brave men and women of our armed services who have given their lives and the families who have borne the profound burden of their loss. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy today.

Farm Bureau

Congressman Sessions and staff meet with the AFB and TFB
On Monday, representatives from the Texas Farm Bureau and American Farm Bureau came by my office to discuss the urgent threat of the New World screwworm (NWS). The entire Texas delegation and I are incredibly concerned about its potential impact. Border closures to prevent American cattle from exposure to the parasite have intensified pressure on our already limited water resources in Texas agriculture. We spoke about the ongoing efforts to develop a domestic sterile fly facility in the United States in case of a spread. This was a successful solution during the 1960s outbreak of the NWS. I intend to closely follow any developments regarding the NWS.

National Industries for the Blind

This week, members of the National Industries for the Blind came to my office to thank me for my efforts in advocating for blind and visually impaired Americans. My bill, the Blind Americans Return to Work Act, is designed to remove barriers to employment and help more blind and visually impaired Americans enter, and succeed in, the workforce. I am grateful for the efforts of NIB in working to ensure blind and visually impaired individuals have the tools they need to pursue meaningful employment.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins meets with Congressman Sessions

This week, I had a constructive meeting with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins to discuss the SEC's direction and priorities. We agree that the SEC’s role is to protect investors, ensure fair and efficient markets, and support capital formation, not to enforce compliance through fear or punitive action after the fact. Unfortunately, under the previous administration, the SEC strayed from these core principles, relying on selective enforcement. During our meeting, I raised several unresolved issues that I’ve spent the past two years pursuing answers on. As we move forward, I’m committed to restoring trust in our financial regulatory system and ensuring the SEC returns to its mission of promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability.

Markups

This week, the Financial Services Committee held a productive markup session, reviewing 25 bipartisan bills related to financial services. You can learn more about these legislative efforts on the Committee’s website here. The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform also held a markup, during which we favorably reported H.R. 884. This bill would prohibit noncitizens from voting in elections in the District of Columbia, helping to ensure that American elections are decided by American citizens. More information about H.R. 884 and other legislation considered during the markup is available here.

DOGE in the Department of the Navy

Congressman Sessions and staff meet with Major George and staff

As Co-Chairman of the Congressional DOGE Caucus, I am committed to advancing efficiency and accountability across all levels of government, through legislation and Congressional oversight. On Wednesday, I met with Major Patrick George, who is heading the DOGE efforts in the Department of the Navy. Major George and his team are taking a comprehensive look at Naval operations to ensure the service is functioning at peak efficiency for the sake of supporting our warfighters. I look forward to continued collaboration with DOGE leaders across federal agencies.

Students from Baylor University

This Thursday, I had the pleasure of welcoming graduate students from Baylor University to my office. These bright minds are exploring the intersection of theology and agriculture, a unique and thoughtful lens on public policy. I enjoyed sharing my motivations for public service and learning from their insightful perspectives. Sic 'em Bears!

Legislation of the Week

H.R. 1One Big Beautiful Bill Act
On Thursday morning, the House passed One Big Beautiful Bill after a full night of hard work. I voted YES on this legislation to deliver real results for the American people by preventing the return of burdensome Obama-era tax policies and strengthening Medicaid by ensuring that it is no longer extended to illegal immigrants. This bill also secures reimbursement for the State of Texas's vital efforts to protect not just Texas, but the entire country, from dangerous criminals that entered the country during the previous administration. Operation Lone Star apprehended over 531,700 illegal aliens, but at a cost to Texas taxpayers. I am pleased to see this victory achieved and remain committed to delivering more results for Texans and all Americans.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress
