Legislative Update
1

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2025 legislative session is (almost) in the books, and like many of you, I’m feeling a mix of pride in what we got done and frustration over how we got here. Through it all, my focus hasn’t wavered: I’m here to stand up for the people of District 11B, to protect our values, and to make sure rural Minnesota has a strong voice at the Capitol.

As Co-Vice Chair of the Children and Families Committee, I’ve fought to make life better for Minnesota families. That means supporting access to child care, respecting parents, and making sure our local communities—not bureaucrats in St. Paul—have the tools they need to help families thrive. Because when families are strong, our future is strong.

I also continued to advocate for the folks who feed and fuel this state—our family farmers and producers. As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I’ve pushed to expand mental health resources for farmers and made sure ag funding actually benefits people on the ground—not just folks in the metro with fancy titles. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you want to support rural Minnesota, start by listening to rural Minnesotans.

And as someone who loves the land we call home, I’ve worked on the Environment Committee to support common-sense conservation that protects our natural resources while respecting local input. Stewardship matters—but it shouldn’t come at the cost of rural voices being drowned out.

Now, about that special session. Let’s be honest—this didn’t need to happen. When House DFL members chose to sit out the first 23 days of session, it stalled progress and set us back. That delay has real consequences, and I know folks back home are tired of the political games. So am I.

Still, I’m staying focused on finishing strong. In this special session, I’ll keep fighting for a responsible, balanced budget—one that respects taxpayers, strengthens our local economy, and keeps government in check. No distractions, no headlines—just the work you sent me here to do.

Thank you for your trust, your input, and your support. It’s an honor to represent you, and I’ll continue to fight every day for our families, our farms, and our future.

Sincerely,

Representative Nathan Nelson
