Overtime - The Backer Tracker
Dear friends and neighbors,
We are officially in overtime as the 2025 legislative sessions officially ended on Monday. However, we still have a lot left to do. This is what happens when House Democrats didn't show up to work for 23 days.
We’ve already passed several major bills, including those related to agriculture, public safety, housing, state government, and legacy funding. But there’s still a lot of work left to do. Bills covering health and human services, children and families, energy, labor, environment, education, commerce, transportation, and more are still waiting to be finalized.
Right now, it feels like we’re in double overtime. House Republicans are working hard and playing fair to get the job done, but the Senate continues to call “timeouts,” stalling real progress. It’s like they’re more interested in returning to their tailgate party than finishing the game. I’m committed to staying in the fight and doing everything I can to deliver results for Minnesotans.

Visitors
This week we had many groups of middle schoolers come to visit and tour the Capitol. It's always great to interact with the students and see their excitement and awe of the Capitol.
On Wednesday, I met with the 6th graders from the West Central Area School District. They were fascinated by the architecture of the capital and enjoyed our discussions. We had an engaging conversation about whether students should have cell phones in the classroom.
Had a great time visiting with the 6th grade class from Park Rapids Public School.
Had a wonderful visit with these cowboys and cowgirls from Breckenridge (6th Graders). They asked several good questions!
