[1]Tammy Duckworth

House Republicans just passed the one “one big beautiful bill” that Trump demanded. Except it won’t be beautiful for the middle class or for America.

Instead, their big, ugly bill explodes the deficit and makes the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history. These massive cuts would hurt people in every state—and Republicans know it, but they don’t care.

Republicans’ budget kicks millions of Americans off their health coverage and will cause medical debt to skyrocket. Millions of people, particularly kids, will go hungry. Let's call this what it is: They're ripping away healthcare from millions of Americans and taking food out of our children's mouths to fund tax cuts for billionaires.

And they are trying to convince the public that they are actually cutting waste or fraud. They’re pushing a dated and false narrative that the people who use these programs are lazy or taking advantage of the system.

They are wrong. This issue is personal to me. Growing up, my family depended on food stamps. When my dad lost his job, the program helped us survive.

I remember going to the grocery store and counting out our last five $1 food stamps to buy as much bread and bologna as possible — praying it would last the week. It didn’t always. Some days we went hungry, but food stamps helped make those hungry days less frequent. And they helped ensure I could go to school and still have a shot at a good education. I would have had to drop out of school to get a job to help feed my family.

Without them, I never would have been able to serve our country in the Army or at the VA. I would not be a United States Senator today.

Republicans are selling out Americans who rely on these programs just so they can hand out monstrous tax cuts to billionaires who don’t need them. Who is arguing that billionaires need yet another tax cut?

They'd rather you struggle than make the MAGA rich pay their fair share.

It’s fiscally irresponsible. It’s morally wrong. It must not become law.

I will do everything I can to fight this awful plan and make sure it does not pass in the Senate, and I will need you with me for the entire fight.

It will be tough, but if we all do our part, we can stop this disgraceful bill.

Tammy Duckworth is a leader we can trust in moments of crisis to fight for us. This is one of those moments in Washington. The chaos and corruption of Donald Trump and his cronies is hurting working families and undermining American democracy.

If you support Tammy’s leadership and understand the importance of her voice in the Senate, please consider making a contribution today to ensure she has the resources to take on Republicans and the wealthy special interests that back them.
