[[link removed]] John,

Today is an important step forward for fairness and equality in America

This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 6-3, ruled that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects LGBT people from discrimination in employment.

But as joyful as this news is, we have more work to do, especially in Texas. While this ruling means people can no longer be fired from their jobs or treated differently from their co-workers simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, no statewide Texas or federal law protects LGBT people from being refused service by businesses and even public institutions simply because of who they are or whom they love. Even worse, Texas lawmakers each session seek to justify such discrimination on religious grounds. Next year lawmakers must firmly reject such efforts and finally pass legislation that fully protects LGBT Texans from discrimination.

We plan to be there, with you, to fight for equality at every step of the way.

As for today, TFN's Just Texas project is co-hosting a Decision Day Virtual Rally and Q&A on Facebook at 5 p.m. this afternoon. We hope you will join us [[link removed]] .

Stay safe and thank you for all that you do.

In the fight,
