Congressional Republicans just narrowly passed their budget plan which makes deep cuts to Medicaid – and for the 100,000 seniors and people with disabilities in Washington State, that could mean losing the care they need to survive.
Senator Maria Cantwell released a new report this month, reaching out to thousands of healthcare workers, nursing homes, and concerned Washingtonians. The results make the stakes clear:
- 67 of 68 nursing homes in Washington say even a 5% cut will force them to reduce services – and nearly two-thirds say they would have to shut down entirely.
- 94% of home care workers report their clients would likely be forced to seek help at an emergency room if their home care stopped.
- 105,700 Washingtonians need long-term home care funded through Medicaid to be safe and independent at home.
It’s not an exaggeration to say lives are on the line – these cuts aren’t numbers, they’re an assault on thousands of Washingtonians and Americans across the country who depend on Medicaid. We can’t abandon our seniors and people with disabilities.
Republicans rammed their disastrous budget through Congress in the early hours of the morning, and now it heads to the Senate. Leaders like Senator Maria Cantwell are on the frontline fighting to stop this budget from passing – but she needs your help.
