All residents safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, authorities said. The three dogs were safely rescued from the home and were in good condition, according to the department. KTLA 5 More than 100,000 pounds of illegal fireworks seized in Los Angeles County Authorities in Los Angeles County seized more than 100,000 pounds of illegal fireworks on Wednesday. According to Cal Fire, the Office of the State Fire Marshal conducted the seizure in Commerce, where it responded to reports that a fireworks importer and exporter wasn't following the requirements of a licensee, despite being a licensed vendor. Cal Fire did not immediately reveal what regulations were broken by the vendor. "As we approach the 4th of July and a typical increase in usage of illegal fireworks, this seizure should be a reminder of our zero tolerance to illegal fireworks in California," said California State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant. More than $4 million in property loss has been caused by fireworks-related fires since January, Cal Fire said. Illegal fireworks in California include sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells and firecrackers, among others. "It is illegal to sell, use or transport in California, fireworks that do not carry the safe and sane seal," Deputy Fire Marshal Kara Garrett said. "Violations of these limitations are subject to $50,000 and one year in jail." The May 20 incident occurred when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle. The suspect failed to comply with commands, prompting the officer to approach the vehicle and repeatedly ask him to turn off the engine. Body camera footage shows the officer asking the driver 12 times to shut off the car, expressing concern that the suspect might flee. When the driver refused, the officer opened the driver’s door and reached inside to shift the vehicle into park. At that moment, the suspect accelerated, dragging the officer approximately 150 feet before crashing into a pole. The officer, visibly injured, was seen on video crawling on the ground and struggling to stand. Several officers arrived quickly and took the suspect into custody after he resisted and hit multiple officers. A search of the vehicle uncovered one kilogram of marijuana and 62 THC vape cartridges. During Wednesday’s news conference, Lott showed Jeffcoat’s body cam footage, detailing when Darby fired at deputies and Jeffcoat’s return fire.“I’ve talked about how these young people with guns ... end them up in one of two places, either the cemetery or in prison,” Lott said during a news conference. “Unfortunately, the gun ... caused someone to loose their life.” It began around 12:15 a.m., Wednesday, when a 911 caller reported that Darby and another suspect, John Lee Williams , 20, were walking around an apartment complex off of Hunt Club road, entering unlocked cars, according to a news release. NBC 4 Flames burn Pacific Palisades home that survived January wildfire After surviving the devastating January wildfires, a Pacific Palisades man stood in the middle of his neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon after his childhood home ignited in flames. "I couldn't believe it when I first got the call," Pacific Palisades native John Wyatt said. "I mean, I was shouting, just couldn't believe it." The fire started just after 1 p.m. in Las Pulgas Place, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters have not determined what caused the fire, but said it started near an electrical panel. Neighbor Joanne Fife spotted the fire and called 911, still in disbelief that a fire threatened her neighborhood again. "It was bad, very scary," she said. "I could easily see the whole cul-de-sac going down in flames." Watching the dozens of firefighters working to extinguish the flames brought back memories of the destructive Palisades Fire to Fife and her husband.
